History of the NBA 1949-1966
So, what did the NBA look like back in 1949? Answer: primitive! No shot clock, no Black players until 1950, low-scoring game with lots of fouls, and rare/brief national coverage. Legendary names like George Mikan and Neil Johnston carried the league until the likes of Bob Pettit, Bill Russell, Elgin Baylor, Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry West, and Oscar Robertson joined in.
Still, teams shifted (where did the Lakers or Atlanta Hawks first play?) or dropped out. Trivia! Chicago (not the Bulls) franchise moved east – where (and who) are they now? Scandals then (like now!) also affected the new league. How so? Find out!!!
